Beginners Guitar Lessons - What to Use, Tabs Or Sheets?

Guitar tabs are another form for sheets and notes, they are much easier to learn, and are written with numbers and lines, to show you where to hold the fingers. But they can't show the exact timings and rhythms, and that is why the notes are normally written above the tabs, so the guitar player can use them to know the rhythm and timings.

The strings are called either by their notes E-A-D-G-B-E starting with the deepest, or by numbers from one to six, with six being the deepest (thickest) string, each of the strings have a drawn line where the fret numbers are written to, the frets are shown as a 0 for a loose string, and 1 for fret one and so on.

I think that in these times, almost all guitar rookies start taking beginners guitar lessons with tabs, especially if they practice on their own, and that is most of the time okay to do, but it's very important to use some of the time to practice some sheet music to. That will also make it easier to understand the repeat signs, lower and higher notes, harmonics and such. There are also old songs that never have been translated to tabs, so with them you have to learn sheet music.

When I started with my beginners guitar lessons, I only practiced with guitar tabs, but I really regret that now. If I just had started practicing the sheet music at that time, I would had been able to play after a sheet much better now, but at this time I have to translate it to tabs first, before I can play it in one run.

So my advice would be, remember to learn sheets and notes when starting your beginners guitar lessons, it doesn't hurt to learn guitar tabs as well, but do not just stick to that.
